Two PhD Funded Positions Wheat Dwarf Virus Resistance and Climate Resilient Durum Wheat at Institute of Biotechnology in Plant Production in Austria; (1) PhD position at the Institute of Biotechnology in Plant Production, BOKU University, Campus Tulln, Austria; Wheat Dwarf Virus Resistance. Insect-transmitted cereal viruses are ‘winners’ of climate change. The project aims to develop tools and new breeding lines with Wheat Dwarf Virus (WDV) Resistance. 1) Genetic variation in advanced breeding material by field phenotyping and genotyping a series of modern wheat breeding lines followed by a GWAS. 2) Marker assisted selection of new cultivar candidates harbouring the WDV resistance QTL Qwdv.ifa-6A (doi:10.1007/s00122-023-04349-3) and field validation of selection response.
Requirements:
- Master degree in agricultural sciences, biology, genetics, mathematics or a related discipline
- Passion for plant breeding, including field phenotyping and modern data analysis
- Knowledge in statistics, quantitative genetics, plant breeding or animal breeding
- Experience in statistical programming in R, Julia, Python or similar languages
- Proficiency in English
- Team orientation, ability to work independently, endurance and enthusiasm for breeding
