Background

  • We seeks to hire a qualified and technically competent Health and Safety Officer for its Aluminium and Copper Ingots Manufacturing Plant.
  • The factory, which is based in Mowe [Lagos-Ibadan Express Way], Ogun state will primarily recycle a broad range of scrap materials and convert them to usable Aluminium and Copper Ingots for different manufacturing purposes.
  • Health and Safety officers are critical in safeguarding a factory's employees, environment, and assets. They act as the guardian of safety and environmental responsibility, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will (but is not limited to):

  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, update, and implement health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures following regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential dangers in the workplace.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid, and coordination with emergency services.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to identify and rectify safety hazards.
  • Safety Communication: Facilitate communication between management and employees regarding safety concerns and initiatives.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment and conduct assessments to determine its effectiveness.
  • Environmental Management: Monitor and manage environmental aspects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainability.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records related to safety training, incidents, inspections, and any other relevant data.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety considerations into various processes and projects.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a positive safety culture by fostering awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports to management regarding safety performance, incidents, and compliance status.
  • Training and Education: Provide training sessions to employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment.
  • Emergency Drills: Organize and conduct regular emergency response drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives based on lessons learned from incidents and inspections.
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; professional certifications (e.g., ISPON, NEBOSH, OSHA etc).
  • Proven 6 - 8 years experience in health, safety, and environmental management, with a focus on industrial, construction, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices, including OSHA, EPA, and ISO requirements.
