JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director General, the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) serves as a member of the Executive Team (ET) to drive the mission and strategy of IBO. The role holds the financial stewardship of the IB and works collaboratively with senior members of the main core business operations of the IB to provide both strategic and operational leadership as an enabler to support the IB’s goal to serve as an exemplary Swiss-based not-for-profit in international education. The role is responsible for ensuring that schools’ experience with the IB financial processes are reflective of the highest professional standards.

Strategic Advice on Financial Matters

  • Serve as a primary and strategic adviser to the DG and the Executive Team in providing input on financial, operational and administrative matters.
  • Work in tandem with the DG, through Quarterly Progress Reviews (QPRs) and the annual budgeting process management with senior leaders.
  • Analyse investments against strategy to determine effectiveness
  • Provide fiscal reports against both strategic and business as usual operations to the Board of Governors & FARM Committee

Finance Leadership & Controller Responsibility

  • Manage the global financial planning and analysis team to deliver IB’s ‘fit for purpose’ operations for short, medium- and long-term horizons.
  • Lead IB’s finance controlling function using best practices (including leveraging of technology). Core back office includes statutory compliance & reporting and all financial management information.
  • Report to FARM Committee on the status of auditors and audit reports, ensuring clean annual external audit reports with good and efficient relationships with external auditors, including the use of future technologies to make processes efficient.
  • Report to and maintain regular contact with the FARM committees; reports are accurate, timely and clear.
  • Ensure the Internal controls are fit for purpose and operating effectively, maintain an internal audit plan with approval of the FARM Committee and report on progress based on the internal audits.

Financial Planning, Management & Statutory Reporting

  • Deliver IB’s financial (management and statutory) reporting globally, managing the budget and forecasting process in order to give financial transparency to the IB community, the FARM Committee, and the Board of Governors.
  • Lead and control the Budget process for the organization in collaboration with the Senior Leaders yet keeping within the financial guidelines and framework.
  • Monitor and maintain the financial health of the organization through the course of the fiscal year(s).

Treasury, Tax and Insurance Management

  • Ensure the IB Treasury function covering both the IB operations and IB Funds, within the agreed global treasury policies that address foreign currency exposure, investment, cash availability and cash controls
  • Maintain IB’s tax status as principally ‘for the public benefit’, charitable etc.
  • Ensure, both on a strategic and operational level, the IB and its operations are recognized by tax authorities in which it operates as charitable in nature and are given either exempt status or attract minimal amounts of direct tax (typically for side activities such as investment income or publications).
  • Ensure the IB operates in compliance with all tax jurisdictions in which it operates throughout the world by working with tax authorities externally (for direct and indirect tax), through the establishment of robust internal policy and procedures and the use of external advisors
  • Oversight of IB’s portfolio of global insurance, ensuring continuous and cost-effective coverage across the enterprise.

Procurement & Contracts Strategy and Management

  • Work as a strategic business partner towards executing the IB procurement & contracting strategies at global level.
  • Selection of vendors based on the Procurement policy ensuring best available prices are offered.

Global Facilities Management

Responsible for establishing and executing strategies to ensure infrastructure is in place to support anticipated business growth.
Ensure cost effective maintenance of all organizational facilities to achieve an optimal state of uptime, safety, security, and compliance in highly regulated environments.

People Development

  • Communicate the organizational strategy and goals and define the alignments with divisional goals

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • Ability to plan and execute long-term financial organizational strategy.
  • Experience in leading an efficient and effective finance division and multi-functional teams.
  • Experience and understanding of the not-for-profit sector and requirements of operating in that environment
  • Experienced as a senior financial executive with experience in business benchmarking, finance strategy, transformation and advisory/consulting skills; transfer pricing; treasury operations and overall leadership of a global finance division.
  • Experience with objective performance evaluation and ability to provide insights into proven business best practices, as well as the design and implementation of high-ROI transformation solutions.
  • Experience in development of world-class solutions and to link these solutions to the overall business strategies of the enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of finance function and measures of performance.
  • An analytical mind capable for “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems.
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication (oral and written).
  • International and cross-cultural experience preferably in a matrixed global professional services and/or educational business environment.
  • Proven public speaking ability (including press and analysts etc).
