PhD Full Scholarship in Fisheries Science at The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University in Canada. Seeking a motivated PhD student to join my lab conducting research on fish ecology and stock assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The project will focus on improving population dynamics modeling for capelin (Mallotus villosus) in the Newfoundland and Labrador marine ecosystem. Capelin is a key forage fish that substantially influences food web dynamics. However, their population dynamics are poorly understood, affecting regional ecosystem based fisheries management.
The student will develop a state-space population dynamics model that incorporates ecosystem mechanisms influencing capelin life-history processes. Research may also involve assessing the robustness of fisheries management strategies to hypothesized drivers of capelin population dynamics. This project will involve collaborations with researchers at Memorial University and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Funding includes a $27,000 annual stipend for four years plus funds to travel to professional meetings and conferences. Location: The student will be registered in a four year, fully funded PhD program in Fisheries Science at the Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University of Newfoundland, in St. John’s, Canada.

Requirements:
- MSc in Fisheries Science/Ecology, Statistics, Mathematics, Marine Ecology/Biology, Oceanography or related discipline
- Demonstrated quantitative skills and experience with R or Python
- Strong written and communication skills
